Ring Group

A group of phone endpoints that ring together (or in sequence) for inbound calls, used by teams that need multiple people to be able to answer.

Also known as: Hunt Group, Call Group

A ring group is a configuration in a business phone system where an inbound call rings multiple endpoints — multiple phones, browsers, or team members — instead of just one.

Two common patterns:

When You Need One

Solo operators don’t. Teams of 2+ usually do. The use cases:

Without a ring group, you’re either dedicating one person to the phone or you’re missing calls because the person responsible didn’t pick up.

Ring Group + AI = Sweet Spot

Modern setups combine ring groups with AI fallback:

  1. Ring the dispatcher’s browser.
  2. If unanswered, ring the owner’s cell.
  3. If unanswered, route to AI voice receptionist.
  4. If AI can’t handle it, hold in queue or take a voicemail with auto-transcription.

The result is that every call is answered without burning out the team.
